My name is Rod, and when you call or text, you get me — the engineer who developed the ADOR automatic chicken door. Not a call center. Not a support ticket system. Just the person who actually knows the answers, because I'm the one who built it. Phone and text get the fastest response. Email works too, but a quick follow-up text helps me find it if you don't hear back right away.

Our Technology

My background in electronics product development goes back to the early 1970s. In 2012, Around the time I became interested in creating an automatic chicken door, I saw most of the products were just using a clock timer for the timing, that you would have to keep changing the timing every week to conform to the seasonal changes.  I wanted our product to be trouble-free so I knew it had to be able to synchronize to daylight since that's what the chickens do.  I had created a deer feeder timer that utilized principles that I could also use in the controller of the chicken door.  I even had a patent on the light detection methods I used.

You Don't Need or Want a Clock Timer

Sometimes people who are new to our product or who are shopping for an automatic  chicken door are not sure about making the chicken door do what they think it should do.  Maybe they want to make sure the latecomers still can get in the coop. Maybe they are afraid dark clouds will fool the controller.  Maybe they do not want the door to open till around noon, and our D.O.O. feature takes care of that.  The D.O.O. feature also lets you manually tell the door to open but the door will still automatically shut.  All these features are built-in to the ADOR Technology, but not with using clock times you have to go out there and set. Nobody wants that. The ADOR technology allows you to have the door open and shut when you want but without setting times.

Our Story

I saw a growing movement of people wanting to take control of their own food supply and backyard chicken keeping was taking off all across the country.  From city backyards to suburban lots to rural farms, there was a definite increase of backyard chickens. Even in the cites people were learning about predators being a threat to their chickens.  I recognized an opportunity to apply decades of engineering experience to a simple but important problem, and the ADOR automatic chicken coop door was born.
